As a marketer, blogger and social media strategist / practitioner – One of the questions which keeps me on my toes is “How to make content shareable on social media?“. Because it matters for your brand. And more than anything, it is a pseudo-indicator that your content is being read, and that your reader is able to connect / relate to what you are sharing. Not to mention that it gives you a definite high. So in my view “A social share is like a social endorsement / compliment of what you are saying” – Either your reader learned something, felt something or thought that there was something in the content piece worthy of a share. One of my published content pieces was shared 10K+ times in 3 days, and the ‘writing / reader’ insights I gained for that one post was invaluable. So what content shares is also a proxy-indicator of what a reader wants to read more of.
In my personal view, below are some of the reasons why a content piece gets shared
1) Compelling headline
2) Unique perspective / point of view
3) Powerful visuals (video, infographic, photo)
4) Brings out a deep human emotion – Mostly makes a reader happy, gives hope or makes them cry
5) Provokes one to think
6) A well-crafted story (true/ personal – the better)
And I came across this interesting infographic on why content gets shared. So posting it on the blog:
