The Karmic Ways of Social Media

I published a post, but it has hardly got any views

I shared a tweet, but no one replied / Retweeted

No one ever leaves any comments on my blog

I hear this feedback all the time in my network. Blogger, Twitter enthusiasts, friends, colleagues – Before I used to try to probe further in an effort to help.. Now I just listen and nod.

WHY? Because I am wiser – as a blogger, writer and individual; and I realized that most of the people who say such things just say it. They don’t want to help themselves. Because if they did, they’d know that social media works similar to life. And just like the karmic ways of life govern what we experience in life.. The karmic ways of social media govern what we experience in social media

So in this post, I am sharing what I’ve understood about Social Media based on my personal experiences..

Social Media Karma(4)

What do you think? Have the karmic ways worked for you? Leave a comment to let me know

Infographics for Dummies | 5 Steps to create your first Infographic

Regular readers of my blog know that ‘infographics’ are my latest muse. Over the last few weeks, I’ve received a lot of requests asking me how I’d created my infographics. So I thought why not write a blog answering this.

I’ve spent all of January and February browsing / sharing infographics on the blog, and spent significant time in March to create my own infographics. Based on all these experiences, I created a simple infographic in response to “How to create your first infographic?”

I hope you find it useful in creating your infographics.

How to create infographics

And as they say, Practice makes a man perfect. So repeat all the steps above.

Have fun, and enjoy creating infographics. I know I did!

Infographic | How to make content shareable on Social Media?

As a marketer, blogger and social media strategist / practitioner – One of the questions which keeps me on my toes is “How to make content shareable on social media?“. Because it matters for your brand. And more than anything, it is a pseudo-indicator that your content is being read, and that your reader is able to connect / relate to what you are sharing. Not to mention that it gives you a definite high. So in my view “A social share is like a social endorsement / compliment of what you are saying” – Either your reader learned something, felt something or thought that there was something in the content piece worthy of a share. One of my published content pieces was shared 10K+ times in 3 days, and the ‘writing / reader’ insights I gained for that one post was invaluable. So what content shares is also a proxy-indicator of what a reader wants to read more of.

In my personal view, below are some of the reasons why a content piece gets shared
1) Compelling headline
2) Unique perspective / point of view
3) Powerful visuals (video, infographic, photo)
4) Brings out a deep human emotion – Mostly makes a reader happy, gives hope or makes them cry
5) Provokes one to think
6) A well-crafted story (true/ personal – the better)

And I came across this interesting infographic on why content gets shared. So posting it on the blog:
